Chapter 3 summary

Chapter 3 in “New Perspectives on The Internet” gives a breakdown of how search engines work, methods of doing a query search and how to spot websites that may be questionable and pick website searches with reliable sources. This chapter had a lot of interesting information about how a search engine works, for example that it uses a database with websites from across the Internet that it uses to display search results to users. Another useful tip was the use of the “location operator” to get hits from a specific country or region with the language operator to return searches in a specific language. This chapter overall was very informative and to list all of the new information I learned would be a long list.
