Chapter 4 summary
In Module 4 of “New Perspectives of The Internet” the author breaks down the module into two parts: web search and copyright. Web search in the first part of the module goes into the vast amount of information the Internet has to offer, from housing, medical information, finding everyday needs like traffic, weather and up to date news. The second part of this module gives the reader wave tops of copyright laws in the United States and where find sources to help the user better understand these laws.
The information I got from this module was mixed; the first part of the module was mostly information known to me and use every day like Yahoo.com for news and weather to keep up to date with current events in just one website. This was a good refresher of what websites are out there with a variety of topics and how I can use this information in the future when building my own website. In the second part of the module where copyright and other terms were introduced was helpful because I have known about plagiarism and citing works from books and websites but I have used multimedia from the web in multiple occasions for projects at work and sometimes at school, not realizing that I needed to give credit to the author for their work. I personally feel I can use the information provided to research future works and ensure I know how to give credit to the author when using someone’s work in class or project at work.
